Piedmont College Theatre presents Gathering Blue

Gathering Blue tells a suspenseful tale of the power of creativity to fight oppression. In an apocalyptic future where human life is cheap, young Kira learns the ugly truth about the powers controlling her world. As the play progresses, we watch Kira face her circumstances with a spine of steel. And, rather than accept the brutality of her world, she demonstrates courage and compassion by choosing to stay and reshape the future.  Written by Lois Lowry as a companion piece to The Giver, Gathering Blue is appropriate for audiences 12 years of age and older. “When searching for Theatre for Young Audience scripts to produce, I always look for strong child protagonists,” says Kathy Blandin, the play’s director. Gathering Blue performances are 7:30pm, Nov. 21-23, and 2pm, Nov. 24, in the Swanson Center Blackbox Theater. General admission tickets are $5, and Piedmont College faculty, staff, and students are free. Tickets can be ordered online at www.piedmont.edu/theatre-schedule or by calling the Box Office at 706-778-8500 x1355.  Pictured is Gathering Blue protagonist Kira played by Lizzy Carver.
