MSMA to feature work of Art Fellows

The works of Piedmont Art Department Fellows Amanda Jane Burk and Drema Montgomery will be on display at the Mason-Scharfenstein Museum of Art (MSMA) from October 15, to November 12.  Burk received a master’s of fine arts degree in printmaking from the University of Georgia in 2007 and uses traditional printmaking methods to make works on paper. She founded and co-owned the print shop Double Dutch Press in Athens from 2012 to 2016. Everything sold in the shop was designed and hand-printed by the artist and her fellow artist/business partner. Double Dutch also offered printmaking workshops and often collaborated with local and national artists to create limited edition prints.  A native of northeastern Alabama, Montgomery makes richly detailed work that addresses social identity. Her paintings, sculptures, and installations reference the aesthetics of the South and Appalachia. Montgomery received her bachelor’s of fine arts degree in ceramics and drawing from the University of Montevallo (Montevallo, Alabama) in 2011 and her master’s of fine arts from the University of Georgia in 2016.  A public reception for the artists will be held from 5-7pm at MSMA, which is located at 567 Georgia Street in Demorest.  Admission to the museum is free. It is open 9am to 5pm Monday through Thursday, and 9am to 2pm on Friday and Saturday.  This work by Amanda Jane Burk will be featured at the Mason-Scharfenstein Museum of Art from October 15, to November 12.
