Earthquake rattles Rabun

According to multiple reports, an earthquake rattled Rabun County and other parts of Georgia in the early morning hours Wednesday.

The 4.4 magnitude earthquake was felt around 4:16 a.m. according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

Many people took to social media to share their experiences – most of who reported being shaken awake while sleeping or hearing their bedroom doors rattle.

The earthquake that originated from Decatur, Tennessee caused no damage in Rabun County according to local Emergency Management Director Micheal Mazarky.

The effects of the earthquake were felt as far as 100 miles into Georgia near Marietta.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, aftershocks are to be expected well throughout the day Wednesday but officials reassure not to worry.

An aftershock is not capable of reaching the same magnitude as the earthquake that occurred before it, only slight shaking, if anything may be felt sporadically throughout the day.
