Eagles host Greenies in Big Rivalry Football Game Friday Night

The Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School Eagles varsity football team hosts the Christ School Greenies in a big rivalry game this Friday, September 16, 2022.  The Eagles are 3-1 on the season and the Greenies sit at 2-2.  Rabun Gap Director of Sports Information and Assistant to the Athletic Director, Coach Connor Cohea says the Eagles are excited about the conference game and invite the community to come watch.  “It’s great to be back at home in front of our fans.  We’ve got a lot going on.  We’ve got a big conference matchup this week against our arch-rival in Christ School.  It’s a big game for both teams.  A lot riding on this game as we get deeper into the season.  But besides football, we’ve got a lot going on.  We’ve got Lower School Night, so the entire Lower School will be here.  We’ll have a tailgate for them.  We’ll be recognizing them during halftime and giving away prizes.  Also, we’ll have the Chick-fil-A stand will be here along with the Chick-fil-A Cow, so we are very excited about that.  Then for our Upper School, the theme night is a “White Out ”, so we have gallons of paint for the kids to paint up and sweatshirts will be given out.  So, there is a lot going on and then we have some smoke machines and everything.  So, it is going to be a really fun night for the fans and everybody.  On the football side of things, we are facing a very good team in Christ School.  We know them very well, they know us very well.  Obviously, when you play your arch rival a little bit extra goes into this game.  They have some good players starting with their quarterback, he’s very mobile and moves very well.  He has a good arm.  They have two explosive receivers.  One of them, #2, who I believe is going to North Carolina State.  They utilize those two guys a lot.  They are going to pass the ball a lot.  So, the big key for us defensively is we have to get after the quarterback but we have to keep him in the pocket.  We cannot let him break the pocket because he is fast and he will take off and get a bunch of yards.  So, we have to do a good job of hitting home on our assignments.  Then, offensively, I think we are starting to hit a groove a little bit.  Each and every week, guys are getting more comfortable.  We’ve got a lot of weapons.  Christ School has some fast players on defense starting with their linebackers.  They are not big up front but they play really fast and they play with good leverage and technique.  So, we’ve got to be on our Xs and Qs with that.  I have full confidence in our guys this week.  Everyone is excited.  Then special teams is obviously a factor that was a big factor in our win last week.  So, we are very excited to be back at home and can’t wait to play in front of our home fans.  We hope that everybody in the local area, if you don’t have anything going on, please come on down and help us pack out Zavala Family Stadium and cheer on your Eagles.”  The game kicks off at 7pm.  If you can’t make it to the game and don’t want to miss a touchdown or tackle, you can listen to Rabun Gap Eagles varsity football home games on Real Country 100.3.
