Downtown Street to close for Parade

The City of Clayton is ready for this year’s Christmas Parade.  At their most recent meeting, the Clayton City Council approved a road closure for the big event on Saturday, Dec. 7, explains Clayton Mayor Jordan Green.  “We’ve done the street closure mainly because we had to postpone our last regular council meeting. The letter had already been sent to GDOT to do that but we needed to officially approve it as a council before the parade happens.  So, it is mainly a formality but we wanted to make sure the parade goes on and that there are no loose ends with that because I’m pretty sure people would be aggravated if the parade didn’t happen. We work with the state because we actually shut down Main Street at Savannah Street, which Savannah Street constitutes State Highway 76.  So that is the biggest thing because Main Street crosses the state highway and we have to have permission from the state to do that.” Rabun County’s Christmas Parade is Saturday, Dec. 7, from 5-7pm. This year the theme of the parade will be “200 Christmases in Rabun County”. It all takes place at 18 North Main Street in Clayton.
