Don’t Take That Call it’s a Scam

A string of phone scams has been happening in Northeast Georgia recently. Some claiming to be the IRS some making threats and asking for money and others saying they are from medicare asking for checking account numbers. Local police think these calls could be from the same group involved with the Georgia Power phone scams. Clayton Police Chief Lindsey Owens has this advice for the public…

“Anytime anybody calls wanting money, wanting your social security number, anything like that don’t give it out. Call the Police Department, we’ll come out check into it, verify that it is actual and true. Just be careful what you do over the phone with anybody.”

Also be cautious of phone calls saying you have won money. If you receive any of these calls write down the number and report it to your local police.
