Don’t Let Winter Weather Wear on Your Car

With cold weather beginning to settle in, Local mechanic Marty Dixon, of Dixon’s Automotive, says there are some things you should consider to get your vehicle through the winter…

“Some of the things that you run into during the cold weather, is if you have a weak charging system or a weak battery, your car might not start on a cold morning, so it would be wise to go get a check-up on your car, and go have the battery tested; make sure it’s charging well and working properly.”

Dixon also says to pay mind to your heating and cooling system…

“Another important thing is antifreeze, you want to make sure that over the summer you didn’t add any water to your cooling system, and you don’t want it to freeze over the winter and cause problems down the road. So the two main things; antifreeze, make sure you have enough antifreeze in your car. and make sure your battery is holding a good charge and that your system is charging properly.”

He adds that you should check your vehicle’s manual to find out what weight of oil to use during the winter.
