Discussions on Wholesale Water Rate Continue

The ongoing saga surrounding the wholesale water rate continues.

The Clayton City Council discussed the whole sale water rate at their monthly meeting on Tuesday.

At the last meeting of the Clayton-Rabun County Water and Sewer Authority, it was voted upon to send a proposal to the City of Clayton that would increase the wholesale water rate from the current rate of $2.10 to $2.62.

One thing that was discussed by the council was the possibility of proposing to move back to the way the city has reimbursed the water and sewer authority in the past. Councilman Buff Green explained that system.

“It seems to me that when we were operating under the cost plus, or paying all of the bills plus giving the water authority $10,000 a month,” said Green, ” that it was more of a win-win for everybody.”

In the end, however, the council voted to leave their proposal at $2.28 per thousand gallons, something that was voted on at their last meeting.
