Detour established for State Route 8 over Beaverdam Creek in Hart County 

The Georgia Department of Transportation and contractor Williams Contracting has begun working on the replacement of the existing bridge on SR 8 over Beaverdam Creek.  The project includes roadway reconstruction on the approaches east and west of the bridge. The project is located approximately 1.7 miles east of Royston in Hart County.  The total length of this project would be approximately 0.2- miles. The new bridge will be 102-ft. long and will consist of a two-lane section with 12-foot travel lanes and 8-foot shoulders.  Traffic will be maintained on an off-site detour which is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, February 7, 2023, for approximately 120 calendar days during the construction of the project. The detour will be in place once the utility relocation work has been completed. Note: due to inclement weather, the dates provided may change.  The off-site detour route utilizes the following state routes for an approximate length of 20.0 miles: SR 17 / Royston Bypass, SR 17 / Bowman Hwy, SR 172, and SR 8 through Hart and Elbert counties. The net detour length is approximately 8.9 miles.  Dates may change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are advised to expect delays, exercise caution, and reduce their speed while traveling through work zones.
