County seeks judicial determination regarding SDS

In regards to the ongoing strife between Rabun County and the City of Clayton regarding the Service Delivery Strategy (SDS), a final determination has been made by commissioners to settle the dispute via a judge.

The issues of local SDS, local revenue collection and distribution, and intergovernmental coordination are crucial to municipalities within Rabun County. Without an SDS verified by the Georgia Department of Community Affairs, a local government or it’s municipalities are ineligible to receive any state permits or financial assistance. In addition, any local projects that are not consistent with the strategy will not receive any state permits or financial assistance.

According to county commissioners, after months of little progress, they will now settle the dispute in Superior Court.

Once a judge reaches a final verdict on the SDS, Rabun County will no longer be considered non-qualified. The strife has been ongoing since 2015.
