Coroner investigating cause of Lake Burton Drowning

The Rabun County Coroner’s Office is investigating the cause of a drowning on Lake Burton on Sunday.  Major Mike England with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Division gives details.  “Around 10:25am on Sunday we had Game Wardens Joe Hill, Jared Wood, Jonathan Segars, and Ethan Franklin respond to Meeting House Road over on Lake Burton in reference to a male subject that jumped into the lake and didn’t come back up.  Witnesses on the scene stated that the male subject began to immediately struggle after jumping into the water.  They observed the male go under the water and begin to sink.  So, when our Game Wardens we deployed our side-scan sonar.  We located the target and we had the Towns County and the Oconee County, South Carolina dive teams come and they recovered the victim.  That person was turned over to the Coroner there in Rabun County and they will determine the cause of death.”  The dive teams recovered the body around 1:30pm.  The man’s name has not been released pending notification of family members.
