Commissioners Set Freeport Exemption Rate

The Rabun County Commissioners activate the Freeport tax exemptions earlier this week.

The voters approved the Freeport tax exemptions during the July primary, and it was up to the commissioners to set a percentage of exemption.

Discussion about what the exemption rate should be took place last month, and last night, the commissioners voted unanimously to set the exemption rate at one hundred percent.

The Executive Director of the Development Authority of Rabun County Ray Coulombe pushed for one hundred percent exemption, and he said he is pleased with the decision.

“I think that the whole Development Authority is very pleased with the vote the commissioners took to approve 100% Freeport exemption,” said Coulombe. “I’m happy, and I believe the whole Development Authority supported that position.”

The exemptions are for manufactured raw materials and finished goods in progress that are in Rabun County, for finished goods produced in Rabun County, and for inventory and finished goods held in storage for shipment in Rabun County.
