Clayton PD arrest trio on stolen vehicle, felony drug charges

CLAYTON — Around midnight on Tuesday, the Clayton Police Department seized a sizeable amount of narcotics along with a stolen firearm after performing a felony traffic stop.

After local law enforcement had been notified a car had been stolen from a Tiger resident, officers located the Chevrolet Cruze by using the tracking system (On-Star) which indicated the vehicle was traveling west near Rainey Mountain Road.

Assisted by Rabun County Sheriff’s Office Deputies, Clayton officers performed a felony traffic stop located in the Circle M parking lot.

Verbal commands from law enforcement were given to the driver and two passengers to exit the stolen vehicle with their hands in the air —  all three complied and were handcuffed while a search was conducted on the car.

Inside the vehicle, a substantial amount of various narcotics and other drug paraphilia was located; a large plastic bag with methamphetamine, oxycodone pills, marijuana spilled onto the floorboard, loaded syringe with a metal spoon and a bag of rubber bands.

Also located was a stolen firearm who belonged to Chavez Wilson, 19.

As a result, the trio was detained from the stolen vehicle without incident. The driver, Dalton Randy McKay, 20, of Lakemont, was charged with two counts Possession of a Scheduled II Controlled Substance and Purchase, Possession, Manufacture, Distribution with Intent to Distribute Controlled Substance.

Laurel Hannah Sterling, 19, of Sunset, South Carolina, was charged with one count of Possession of a Scheduled II Controlled Substance and Purchase, Possession, Manufacture, Distribution with Intent to Distribute Controlled Substance.

Wilson, of Clayton, was charged with two counts Possession of a Scheduled II Controlled Substance, Purchase, Possession, Manufacture, Distribution of Marijuana, Possession of Firearm by Convicted Felon, Possession of Firearm or Knife During Commission of a Crime, Theft by Stolen Property – Felony, Probation Violation and Purchase, Possession, Manufacture, Distribution with Intent to Distribute Controlled Substance.

All three defendants remain lodged in the Rabun County Detention Center.
