Clayton Man arrested on Multiple Charges after Pursuit

A Clayton man stands charged with fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement, reckless driving, driving while license suspended or revoked, and failure to maintain lane after a pursuit by law enforcement.  On April 10, a deputy of the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office observed a 2000 Ford Mustang fail to maintain its lane on Bridge Creek Road.  The deputy activated blue lights but the vehicle failed to stop.  It ran the stop sign at the intersection of Bridge Creek Road and Old 441 then turned onto Bethel Road and began to speed while driving on both sides of the road.  The vehicle then turned on to Iceplant Road losing several vehicle parts in the roadway.  Once the vehicle reached the intersection of Iceplant Road and Old 441 it turned north towards Clayton city limits.  A Clayton Police Department Officer was waiting and deployed stop sticks in the roadway.  The vehicle avoided the stop sticks and left the roadway striking a ditch at the intersection of Old 441 and Springfield Lane coming to a stop.  As the Clayton Police Officer approached the vehicle, the driver, 25-year-old Billy Clyde Wilson of Clayton, attempted to flee but was arrested.  He was then taken to the Rabun County Detention Center for booking on the charges.
