Clayton Has Issues with First Draft of Document to Begin Consolidation Process

The Clayton City Council held a work session Tuesday afternoon.

At their work session, they discussed the first draft of a document outlining the first step in consolidating water and sewer throughout the county, which was voted upon by the Clayton Rabun County Water and Sewer Authority Tuesday morning.

Clayton City Attorney Mitch Baker expresses some concerns regarding the way the proposed new water and sewer authority is outlined in the document, saying he is not sure if it lines up completely with the recommendations of the Carl Vinson Institute.

“One, it eliminates the appointments by the grand jury, but personally I think that’s a good thing. Two, it has less appointments for the city of Clayton, with only one spot rather than the recommended two, and I think Sky Valley has been added on, when I’m not sure the Carl Vinson Study recommended Sky Valley have a representative.”

The city of Clayton simply discussed the first draft of the document which the current water and sewer authority voted to send to the Rabun County Commission.
