Clayton Council hears Presentations on Short Term Rentals and Golf Carts

At Tuesday’s work session meeting, the Clayton City Council heard two presentations by Planning and Zoning Administrator Scott Dills.

The first dealt with an ordinance for short term rentals. “Right now it is a working draft. We have people on both sides of the aisle on that, some people want it and some people don’t.  So, it is going to take a little while. We are going to have to have several meetings. The council wants it open to the public to get public input on it, but I don’t think that we are really going to prohibit it in the city, at the present time it doesn’t appear that way.  So, it will just be regulated to make sure that the appropriate taxes are paid according to Georgia State Law, that they are permitted, and that they get their safety inspection at least yearly to provide for the safety of the people that would occupy the short term rentals.”  The second presentation by Dills to the Clayton City Council concerns golf carts on city streets. “That is just in talks right now. What I understood from the council is that they do not want to pursue allowing them by anyone, but they do want to pursue using golf cart trams to transport people from parking areas that are further away from the downtown area and to help transport employees and owners, so that we loosen up a lot of the parking on Main Street that is what I understood from the council.”  Both the short term rentals ordinance and golf carts on city streets are still in the early planning stages and Dills said public hearings would need to be held on each before a vote could be taken by the Clayton City Council.
