City May Face Cuts Without SPLOST

The Clayton City Council begins discussion on their Fiscal Year 2014 Budget.

The Council held their first budget workshop of the year on Tuesday afternoon, and began by looking at adjustments to the water and wastewater budget, specifically water distribution and sewer collection.

Clayton City Manager Cissy Henry said that many changes in the water and wastewater budgets were done for an organizational purpose, such as moving a cost from line item to another.

Henry did say, however, that cuts are being made in some departments this year in anticipation of not receiving any of the additional one cent sales tax.

In the streets department, we’re making several cuts because of no SPLOST,” said Henry. “We’ll be cutting beautification and the paving and maintenance of the roads.”

Cuts in that department include a decrease of $20,000 to the paving program, and a $12,000 decrease to beautification.
