Burglary and Theft under investigation by Rabun Co. Sheriff’s Office

Investigators with the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office are currently looking into a recent burglary and theft.  On Sept. 6, 2019, an investigator was dispatched to an address on Dickerson Lane in Rabun Gap in reference to a theft that had occurred.  The victim told the investigator that she was attempting to sell a ring on Facebook for $3,000. The victim mailed the ring and then received an email stating that there would be an additional $400 fee because she did not have a business account with Paypal.  She was told to get an Itunes card for $400 and send it to them. She did as instructed but has not received any payment for the ring. The second incident happened on Sept. 8, 2019, when an investigator went to an address on Bear Gap Road in Lakemont regarding a burglary from a lake house.  A painting worth $10,000 had been stolen as well as lifejackets, a canoe, and an ore, valued at $550, were also missing from the boathouse down by the lake.
