Boggs Makes Donation to Paws, Some Say Should Have Been More

As Rabun Paws for Life is scheduled to have their soft opening on today and hold a public forum to answer any questions tomorrow afternoon, they have announced they have received funds from Boggs Mountain Humane Shelter.

The CEO of Paws 4 Life Shannon Conrad says they received just over $10,000, most of which is allocated for specific purposes, with around $1,000 set aside for the building and $6,000 set aside just for helping injured animals.

While Conrad is very pleased and thankful for that donation, she said that there is an inconsistency in the numbers.

“The county pays whoever they contract with $14,500 monthly,” said Conrad. “That’s the monthly amount that has been distributed to the Boggs Mountain Humane Society and would be in the operations account. The operations account has $275.”

While the Boggs Mountain Humane Shelter has had expenses even though they have been closed, when asked whether or not that was the correct amount present in the operating fund, Boggs Mountain Humane Shelter Board member Kirk Knous said this.

“I’m not sure I understand the question. $275? It’s way more than $275, I’ll tell you that much.”

Knous went onto to say that he wants Paws 4 Life to be successful, and they transferred much of what was left of their funds to Paws ten days ago.

“We made a significant cash donation to Rabun Paws for Life, said Knous. “We’ve closed out our checking account, the account that we had set up to save Rabun County’s Animal Shelter, and all of those funds have been turned over to Rabun Paws 4 Life.”
Paws 4 Life will be holding a public forum Thursday evening at 5:30 in the courtroom at the Rabun County Courthouse, and one thing that will be discussed is finances.
