BOE Discusses Backup Plan for Making Payroll This Fall
The Rabun County Board of Education met on Thursday, and discussed a line of credit for the school board to get through the first part of the year.
At the meeting, Rabun County School Superintendent Matt Arthur explained why the school may need a line of credit.
“We’re concerned about making it to the first of November to pay payroll,” said Arthur. “We’ve been here before. We had a line of credit approved, I believe, but we never had to use it.”
Arthur said he just wants to be prepared, and everything will be taken care of towards the end of the year.
“Right now, it’s going to run really close. I’m not saying we’re not going to make it without it, but if y’all will approve this it gives us the ability to go out and do it if we have to,” said Arthur. “We’ll have to pay off this line of credit by December 31st, which if Ad Valorem taxes come in, which they always have during the fall of the year, we’ll be able to turn right around and pay it off.”
Arthur said the reason things are tight is because the school board is not hoarding money, but investing it back into the community.
