Body Found Friday Morning

An apparent suicide took place early Friday morning in the city of Clayton.

Assistant Police Chief Andy Strait said around 6am this morning, officers with the Clayton Police Department were dispatched to the TNT Wrestling Building area of the Indoor Flea Market on Highway 441 in response to an unresponsive male.

Strait went on to say officers, along with Rabun County EMS personnel, observed that the subject, identified as 29 year old Jason Speed of Clayton, was deceased, and Investigator Troy Taylor with the Clayton Police Department and Rabun County Assistant Coroner Trampes Stancil were called to the scene.

“They were able to determine that the male subject was deceased from an apparent suicide.”

The family says that Speed was due to go to Federal District Court in Gainesville for a hearing later that day.

Strait says he believes Speed’s grandmother placed the call to 911.
