Battle of Paddles IV attracts over 150 People to Rabun Co.

Over 150 people visited Rabun County over the weekend for Battle of the Paddles IV, a three-day pickleball tournament hosted by the Rabun County Recreation Department.  Amy Martin, Administrative Assistant and Program Specialist with the Rabun County Rec says the tournament attracted people from throughout the Southeast.  “We had 153 participants.  We had participants from Alabama, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Florida, and just from all over the Southeast.”  The tournament started Friday and ran through Sunday in the Rabun County Rec gyms, adds Martin.  “Friday, we started the tournament and we hosted women’s doubles and men’s singles.  That was a fun little day with those events going on.  Then on Saturday, we did men’s doubles and women’s singles.  Then on Sunday for the final day, we hosted mixed doubles.  So, that was fun getting to see some great action from mixed doubles to singles.”  Martin said many people contributed to make it a successful event.  “We would like to thank our volunteers, without them we could not host the event.  It does take a lot of people to run a tournament this large.  We would also like to thank our community.  We had a lot of our participants go through Clayton and eat as well as stay in Air B&Bs and some of the local hotels.  So, again thanks to everyone.  If it wasn’t for everyone’s support we could not bring people in from other states and counties and have them enjoy what a great town we live and work in.  So, overall it was just a great weekend.”  If you would like to see pictures of the winners of the Battle of the Paddles IV visit the Facebook page of the Rabun County Recreation Department at https://www.facebook.com/RabunCountyRecreationDepartment/.
