Authorities seize $24k in illegal narcotics

Last week, law enforcement seized aproximentley $24,000 in illegal narcotics after concluding a nearly six-month-long undercover investigation.

On March 7th, the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office, the Demorest Police Department and the Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office (ARDEO) executed a search warrant at 617 Golf Course Road, Demorest, GA.

Authorities seized 8 ounces of methamphetamine from Jasper Jerry Carlan during this investigation along with $1,300. According to Special Agent in Charge Mitchell Posey, “Carlan said he had been selling methamphetamine for 20 years and had never previously been caught.”

Robin Early May was also arrested because he helped Carlan distribute methamphetamine to customers.

A customer of Carlan’s, Keith Lamar Pitts, arrived at the residence with a gram of methamphetamine while authorities were executing the search warrant.

As a result, Carlan, May and Pitts were all arrested. Carlan, 78, was arrested for trafficking methamphetamine, sale of Methamphetamine, and possession of methamphetamine with Intent to Distribute. May, 55, of Cornelia, was arrested for trafficking methamphetamine and sale of methamphetamine. Pitts, 52, of  Mount Airy, was arrested for possession of methamphetamine.

All three individuals were transported to the Habersham County Detention Center.
