Another Test Well to be drilled in Clayton
A third test well is scheduled to be drilled in the City of Clayton. Last month, the Clayton City Council hired Site Management Service for $15,933 to drill a test well as part of a soil and erosion contract, explains Clayton City Manager Cissy Henry. “Currently we have the results for the two wells that have been drilled as of last week. Right now, I think we are getting somewhere around 170 gallons a minute and those are being tested. We have not received the results from those yet as far as the water quality. At their meeting, the Clayton City Council voted to give directions to go ahead and do a third well site on this property. So, that is going to be in the works in the next couple of weeks.” In order to drill those first two wells, the city was forced to close the playground and walking track facing Highway 76 West. Henry says the well will be drilled in a different area, so she hopes the playground and walking track will be reopened soon. “That will be in a different section. I’m not sure when we will get the park opened back up, I know that we have a lot of people who walk and use this park. So, hopefully, we will get that open maybe shortly after the holidays. I hate that because that is being closed off for any use right now, but the next well site will be in the back.” The project requires the use of heavy equipment, so it is very dangerous to be in this area when work is underway.
