Alcohol Ordinance approved by Clayton City Council

The City of Clayton has a new alcohol ordinance.  Second reading of the alcohol ordinance was unanimously approved on Tuesday.  The 47-page document establishes definitions, regulations, and penalties within the city, explains Clayton City Manager Cissy Henry.  “The second reading on the alcohol ordinance has been passed by the Clayton City Council. The alcohol moratorium has been lifted, so for those restaurants that have been waiting to get those licenses you can come into Clayton City Hall and apply for those licenses as soon as Wednesday to get that process underway.  So, we are looking forward to that. We’ve overcome this chapter and we’re looking forward to moving forward.” The ordinance aligns the city with the state, adds Henry. “There were a lot of loopholes in the previous ordinance and Clayton Zoning Administrator Scott Dills has worked really hard on putting this ordinance together.  It’s been a long process, but I think now that it is something that we can live with, it’s something that is going to keep us and our businesses safe, and it is going to take us where we need to be and where current City Council wants to keep our town. You know, we don’t want the beer joints, but we do want people to come and be able to enjoy a drink, but also be able to have fun activities and be able to eat downtown and enjoy themselves.”  City businesses that serve alcohol are encouraged to read and sign off on the ordinance at Clayton City Hall.
