Final

Arizona          3

St. Louis «     17

Rams’ QB Sam Bradford connected on a pair of touchdown passes and was aided by a stifling defense for St. Louis. The Arizona Cardinals suffered their first loss of the season to bring them to a record of 4-1.

MLB

The round of Wildcard games begins tonight, with Baltimore visiting Texas in the American League game, and the Atlanta Braves hosting St. Louis in the National League. The Braves will start that game without catcher Brian McCann because of a nagging hamstring injury. David Ross will catch for the ailing McCann, who could play if the Braves advance.

The Boston Red Sox fired manager Bobby Valentine yesterday, one day after the club finished last in the American League East with a record of 69-93. In addition to the team’s record, it is reported that Valentine had issues with some members of his coaching staff, as well as some problems with players.

NHL

One week before the regular season was slated to begin, the NHL has announced the cancellation of the beginning of the 2012-13 schedule through Oct. 24. A total 82 games, beginning on Oct. 11, has been wiped out due to the ongoing labor strife. The NHL and NHL Player’s Association got back to the bargaining table last Friday and met for three straight days over the weekend in hopes of coming to a resolution.
