UPDATE: Dispatch Fees On Their Way for Some Cities, Says County

The county begins to make preparations for charging some cities in Rabun County for dispatch service.

After discussions during a budget workshop Thursday morning, Rabun County Commission Chairman Butch Darnell announced that they have the county attorney Allyn Stockton working on a letter to three cities outlining the county’s plan.

“It’ll be Sky Valley, Mountain City, and Clayton that we are sending letters to put them on notice that we will be charging them a fee,” said Darnell. “We haven’t come up with a dollar amount yet, because we want to make sure of what the costs are, but we are putting them on notice that that will be coming so they can prepare for that in their budgets.”

Darnell says that just Clayton, Mountain City, and Sky Valley are included in the county’s plan to charge for dispatch service as they are the cities that collect taxes.

Also discussed at the county’s budget workshop include plans regarding funds for the Rabun County Arena and the Development Authority of Rabun County.
