Wildcat Athletics: The Wait is Over

The Rabun County High School athletic season for 2016-2017 got underway officially this past weekend, with football and softball both competing.

The Wildcat football team travelled north to Franklin, North Carolina for a scrimmage against rival, Franklin High. The game only lasted for two quarters, but that did not stop the Cats from scoring quickly. Rabun left with a 24-14 final score. Head Coach Lee Shaw says that he liked what he saw in the short amount of time that the team had to play. “I’m proud of their effort tonight. Several of our young guys grew up. We faced adversity early, but never really panicked. I’m really proud of how we responded.” said Shaw. Rabun opens the season on August 26th on the road at Mt. Pisgah Christian.

For Rabun Softball, they finished 4th in the Lake Point Tournament held over the weekend in Gainesville. Rabun played tough talent including White County, Habersham Central, Commerce, and played a 12-inning game against Lumpkin County. Next up for the softball cats, is a home date with White County today at 5:55pm.
