Wildcat Athletics: “Icing on the Cake”

It’s closing time for the prep career of one Rabun County High School athlete, and he is letting everyone know, that he “is not finished yet.”

On Thursday, Wildcat senior and University of Georgia football signee Charlie Woerner competed in the GHSA AA Track and Field State Championship for discus in Jefferson, and walked away a state champion.

Athletic Director for Rabun County High School, Lee Shaw was ecstatic about the achievement of Woerner, he said “what a tremendous effort for Charlie to become a State Champion during his senior year. It’s like icing on the cake! We are all extremely proud of Charlie and the legacy he is leaving as a Wildcat.”

Shaw also mentioned that Woerner’s win is the first state championship in school history for male track and field. His winning shot was a 158.2, which was 8 feet farther than the second place finisher.
