Wildcat Athletics: Cats Begin the Season in the Top-10

The GHSA football season officially kicks off tonight, and even though Rabun County will not take the field for another week, that did not stop them from receiving state-wide attention, yet again.

The Georgia Sports Writers Association released the first poll of the season this week, and the Wildcats will debut the 2016 season in the top-10 in class AA. Rabun County will begin the season tied for 10th with fellow region 8 foe, Elbert County.

Coach Lee Shaw is humbled by the ranking, stating “It’s truly a great honor based on last years accomplishment. This program has earned statewide respect. The goal now is to stay in that top 10 ranking.”

Two other Northeast Georgia schools are ranked in the preseason top-10 for their respective classifications. Jefferson will begin the season ranked 7th in class AAAA, and in class A, Commerce is ranked 6th.

The Rabun County Wildcats will begin their season next Friday, August 26, against Mount Pisgah Christian in Alpharetta.
