State’s Highest Court Upholds Governor Deal’s Decision

Former District Attorney for the Mountain Judicial Circuit, Brian Rickman, is safe on the state court of appeals.

Brian Rickman, along Nels Peterson and Amanda Mercier were appointed to the Georgia Court of Appeals in December, as part of an expansion from 12-15. A citizen challenged Governor Deal’s decision, stating that the appointments were unconstitutional, stating that these positions should be elected, not appointed.

On Tuesday, the state’s high court voted to uphold the Governor’s appointments 6-1.

Their appointment term ends in 2018.
