Michael McClain of Rome

Mr. Michael Clay McClain, age 76, of Rome, passed away on Friday, May 27, 2016, at a local hospital.

Mr. McClain was born in Tiger, Georgia on February 1, 1940, son of the late Ray McClain and the late Rosa Bleckley McClain. He was also preceded in death by four siblings, Dot Duncan, Mildred Chlupacek, Hugh McClain and Dean McClain. Mr. McClain was a salesman with Proctor & Gamble for 28 years prior to retirement. He was a member of the New Armuchee Baptist Church and the Cherokee Lodge F&AM.

Survivors include his wife, Laura Ogletree McClain, to whom he was married on January 11, 1960; three children, Tina M. Barnett, Rome, Anthony McClain and his wife, Kirsten, Rome, and Teresa Yandell and her husband, Richard “Bear”, Rome; seven grandchildren, L. A. Simpkins, Clara Simpkins, Sarah Barnett, Clay Barnett, Elan McClain, Ellery McClain, and Ellia McClain; three brothers, Bill McClain, Zane McClain and David McClain; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 30, 2016, at 11am at the New Armuchee Baptist Church, 5385 Martha Berry Hwy NE, Armuchee, GA 30105, with Dr. David Howard and Dr. Bob Skelton officiating. Interment will follow at 5:30pm on Monday at the Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery in Tiger, Georgia.

The family will receive friends at New Armuchee Baptist Church on Monday from 10am until the service time.

Grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers.
