John Anthony Garland

John Anthony Garland, age 60, of Dalton, Georgia, passed away on Thursday April 20, 2017.

John was a member of the Wolffork Baptist Church, and had been the R.A. Director there. He graduated from Rabun Gap Nacoochee School in 1974 and completed his Finance degree from the University of Georgia in 1978. He was a past member of the Rabun County Zoning and Planning Board, and worked as an assistant plant manager at Sangamo, in Rabun Gap. He was the sales manager and vice president of Garland Sales Inc. in Dalton. John loved to farm, and farming was a favorite passion of his.

He loved his family more than anything, his children and granddaughter were extremely important. He very rarely missed family gatherings in the valley and he always wanted to be a part of his brothers and sisters lives.

Preceding him in death by his parents, O. S. Garland and Olene Giles Garland and two brothers, Brian Garland, Doyle Garland.

His survivors include his son, Jonathan Garland, of Dalton; his daughter, Ivy Garland Westbrook (Derrick), of Clayton; his brothers, Richard Garland, of Dalton, Humphrey Garland (Dixie), of Smyrna, Milton Garland (Rita), of Bogart; his sisters, Judy McCracken (Mike), of Rabun Gap, Linda Page (Don), of Rabun Gap, and Sheri York, of Dillard; one granddaughter, Harper Westbrook. A number of nieces of nephews also survive him.

The family will receive friends at Wolffork Baptist Church from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm on Saturday April, 29 2017.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday April, 29, 2017 at the Wolffork Baptist Church, in Rabun Gap with Rev. Judson Hall officiating.

A graveside service will follow at the Wolffork Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. James Greer officiating.
