History in the Making for District 8 Representative

The race for State House of Representatives District 8 finished as a tight race, so much so, that a run off is being called in July to determine the winner.

Matt Gurtler led voting, receiving 34.66% of the vote, a majority of those votes came from Towns and Union Counties. For Kent Woerner, he won Rabun County, and finished 22.59% of the vote. Joshua Littrell finished third, only 17 votes less than Woerner.

No matter what the outcome is, the winner of the District 8 house race will be a resident of Rabun County. When was the last time that happened? We have to go all the way back to the fifties, when Knox Bynum was speaker of the house from 1959-1962. The districts have taken a different shape since then, so this will be the first representative from the current 8th district.
