Clayton Has 2.8 Million Problems

You may remember smoking testing being done on Clayton’s sewer system several months ago, Public Works Director Moody Barrick says the results of those test are now in…

“At this time, we still haven’t analyzed the report enough to know where we’re gonna start, but we want to do what we can to eliminate I&I, and some of those fixes are not real difficult…hopefully.”

Barrick explained what I&I is…
“I&I is inflow and infiltration, where you get the groundwater and rainwater coming into your sewer system, and it just adds unnecessary water to the treatment plant. It’s not a health issue in that sense, but it does increase the cost of treating sewer.”
Barrick added that other steps will have to be taken before I&I is addressed…
“We’ll have to prioritize the ones that definitely need fixing right away because they’re a health hazard, and then we’ll probably figure out the ones that are most expensive and the hardest, and probably try to do the easiest ones first that we can handle internally.”
It was stated in the last Clayton City Council meeting, that the estimated cost of repairs to the sewer system is $2.8 million.
