New Water Treatment Plant breaks ground in Dillard

The Rabun County Water and Sewer Authority broke ground on a brand new Water Treatment Plant for Rabun County’s northern end in Dillard on Monday. Director of the County Water and Sewer Authority Brendan Thompson says many were on hand to witness the ceremony including County Administrator Darrin Giles, Chairman Sam Beck, and representatives from Dillard.

The treatment plant will soon be built in Dillard, Thompson tells us exactly who will be served with the new plant

“The City of Clayton serves up to Mountain City. From Marson Knob north, up to the state line, will be supplied with water from that water treatment plant.” Says Thompson.

With a new project, comes budget. Thompson describes where the funds came from:

“The vast majority, $4.3 million, was done by SPLOST through the County commission. The remaining amount was done by a loan taken out by the authority, of $1.3 million. Of which, $500.000 of that principle will be forgiven.”

The new Rabun County Water Treatment Plant is expected to be completed by October 2016.
